‘Night Train to Kuala Lumpur’ the misterioso opening in 12/8 gives the celesta and strings in a minor key, an air of magic. Fanfares in the brass and runs in the strings move the piece forward with excitement and dramatic flair. Unison strings and woodwinds play the main melodic material amid bombastic accents in cymbals, timpani, and bass lines. The material pivots keys for several pages until a slower Celtic-like feeling in the woodwinds with added tambourine and pizzicatos provide much-needed relief for the brass to rest before taking the triplet-fanfare figures back up again in the next, concluding section, all while shifting keys and moving in increasing interesting and complex harmonic progressions. The piece ultimately concludes much as it began. This cue was recorded and is still being used in theme parks for adventure rides in Dubai.
