‘Lillia Grieves’ is a 6/8 cue that features strings and solo guitar most prominently. It begins with a short thematic motif that is repeated as more and more strings enter in cascading additions up and across the score pages. The repeated theme is then played on the celesta and under hushed, tremolos of strings before the solo guitar plays the motif and then uses it as the basis for a much larger melodic line. Harp adds color to the strings accompaniment that quietly ebb and flow and sometimes give rhythmic counterlines during sustained notes in the guitar. It concludes in interesting modal final chords that add a touch of despair and grief to this restful piece.
