Sentimental Film Music Cue [1'00"]

‘Rediscovered After 60 Years’ is a sensitive movement that aims to capture the tenderness and beauty from its inception, by opening with music box-like figures in the celesta and harp with tremolo string pads and a long solo clarinet line. The line moves upward until the flute solo combined with harp continues the idea in a more Debussy-inspired orchestration. The accompaniment becomes stagnant as a solo French horn then takes the melodic material into soaring, beautiful lines that rise higher and higher. Suddenly, a gentle and faster 3/4 tempo is established with woodwinds playing counterlines amid gentle harp glissandos leading toward a climatic and ravishingly lush E major section that is both uplifting in its delicacy and bittersweet in its poignancy. Solo oboe and strings play this section’s main material as celesta and harp give added middle ground and texture to the lyrical quality of the sweeping music that carries the listener adrift to the final section. In the Coda, the celesta plays ascending triplets upward as a solo oboe, and mid-range strings paint a final, somber mood in a reflexive, modal harmonic twist as the piece’s final chord.
